The rise of the social media anthropologist
If you look at the roots of PR, Advertising and Marketing they have always been based in social sciences like psychology, sociology and anthropology. This is one of the primary reasons I stay in touch with the activities happening in these fields. I've even thought if I were to go on and get my PhD it would be in Anthropology.
Gartner says the bridge to the future with social networks will be with roles with origins in the social sciences. Better understanding of the Web will require skill sets more closely aligned with sociology, psychology and other behavioral-centric sciences.
