Why is there no real competitor to Google Reader

Seriously, Google Reader is so much better than anything on the market it's rediculous. I think competition is a really good thing but no one seems to be stepping up to challenge Google here.

    From Louis Gray:
My Top Ten Favorite Google Products

"Though it may sound crazy, I believe the quality lead Google Reader has over its competition exceeds even that of Google Search's quality lead over its relative competition. I would rather have Reader and be forced to use Yahoo!/Bing than use Google Search and use some other RSS reader."

Sent from my brain telepathically with the help of my phone.

Especially if you also use Feedly which further enhances google reader

I use FeedDemon, which is a great news reader (and I hear their Mac one is pretty good too.) But even they recently threw in the towel and started using Google Reader as their back end for synchronization. I really like FeedDemon's UI, though -- even more than Google Reader.

After using Feedly for a long time, I thought to give GR a try yesterday. Feedly works on GR only so, no competition to it, but Feedly is what should happen to every Google application to make it look good and work finer. Like Apple products.

I've used Google Reader for years & nothing else comes close, however, it's screaming for a symbian app or mobile site update because the normal mobile version is far too basic, missing many of the functions from main version which make Google Reader great.

@efader and Nitin, I love Feedly. I wish it worked with other browsers so I could recommend it to some clients.

Erica, you're right. Everyone seemed to throw in the towel against Google Reader. I wish someone would do something though.

Paul. I got no help for you with Symbian but the iPhone has a great Google Reader app called ByLine. I love it. It doesn't have the new social features but it has a lot of other features.
